The HSK is a Mandarin Chinese proficiency examination. Flippio uses HSK 1 as a beginner-level study label; the site's materials are independent practice resources, not an official course or exam guide.
The New HSK framework is described in three stages and nine levels, with test formats that may change over time. Flippio's 500-word beginner collection comes from the vocabulary data bundled with this site and is not a complete or verified current test syllabus.
Coverage note: Flippio's practice content has not been verified against a current official syllabus. Check current exam requirements independently before making study or test plans.
Start with character recognition and pinyin, then practise common words in short sentences and everyday topics. The site offers flashcards, listening, speaking, reading, and topic activities alongside focused guides.
Beginner Mandarin sentences often use subject–verb–object order, such as 我学汉语 (Wǒ xué Hànyǔ, “I study Chinese”). Add 吗 (ma) to form many yes-or-no questions, and use a suitable measure word between a number or demonstrative and a noun, as in 一本书 (yì běn shū, “one book”). These are introductory patterns; sentence form and word choice depend on context.
| Stage | Levels | Overview |
|---|---|---|
| Elementary | 1–3 | Foundational communication |
| Intermediate | 4–6 | Broader everyday and study communication |
| Advanced | 7–9 | More complex academic and professional communication |
The New HSK framework includes listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation at advanced levels. Test specifications can change, and this guide may not reflect current requirements.
The figures below describe this site's practice mock, which follows an earlier HSK 1 format. They are not a specification of the current New HSK exam. Question types, counts, and duration may differ from the current test.

Target 15–20 flashcards daily. Focus on pronouns (我, 你, 他), basic numbers (一 to 十), and common greetings. Always repeat pronunciation aloud with the audio.
Switch to Topic Practice: complete Food, Family, Time, and Weather modules. Begin daily 15-minute listening drills to train your ear on Mandarin tonal variations.
Engage with our Reading practice to see words in syntactic context. Practice speaking full phrases with speech verification to solidify muscle memory.
Try the 35-minute legacy-format practice mock every few days. Review incorrect answers and track progress. Treat your score as a personal practice measure, not a prediction of results on the current official test.
